Why we want it

This is the SHADE creeping phlox β€” the drift of spring blue under your trees. It loves the conditions the sun-type hates, so it fits 90% of your property.

Where it goes in our yard

Massed as a flowering groundcover under the canopy and along the stroll path.

Planting & care

Even moisture in part shade; shear lightly after bloom. Don't confuse with sun-loving Phlox subulata.

What to buy

P. stolonifera ('Sherwood Purple', 'Home Fires') or P. divaricata for fragrance.

Sourcing

Native-plant nurseries. See also the Sun Accents entry for the other phlox.
