Why we want it

The earliest spring color of the season โ€” it lights up a bare-tree woodland edge before anything else wakes up.

Where it goes in our yard

Sunnier margins: the driveway edge and the front tree line.

Planting & care

Easy and adaptable. Best flowering with some morning sun. Well-drained soil.

What to buy

Straight species, or 'Forest Pansy' (purple leaves), 'Rising Sun' (gold-orange foliage).

Sourcing

Widely available at garden centers.
